John's journey began modestly, leaving his family farm at fourteen with a grade nine education. His early years in a furniture store in Windsor, N.S., laid the foundation for his unwavering work ethic. In 1952, after marrying his beloved Shirley and welcoming their first child, John moved to Lr. Sackville to start a new chapter at Blackburn Shopping Centre. His dedication and keen business insight led him to establish his own hardware store, which he expanded to a successful enterprise, joining the Home Hardware family in 1970. This move reflected his belief in community and the common good as essential pillars of good business.
John's approach to business was deeply rooted in traditional values, focusing on strong relationships and integrity.His support for young families during the housing boom of the early 1970s and his commitment to customer service, even outside business hours, are testaments to his character. He was an active community member, contributing to various groups and committees, including the Kinsman Club of Sackville and the Sackville Chamber of Commerce. On November 12th, the PRO Road Show at Dartmouth’s Zatzman Sportsplex brought contractors together for a day of learning, networking, and fun. With 80+ exhibits and hands-on challenges, it was a celebration of the hardworking pros shaping our communities!

On June 20, 2024, we hosted our Fulfillment Centre Open House, giving contractors from all over Nova Scotia a first look at our new facility. With great food, BBQs, and tours, it was a fun and memorable day for everyone!
